Every Monday we aim to showcase a local film project from kickstarter.com that needs YOUR help!
What better way to kickstart this new series than to also fire up our coverage of STIFF 2012.
This year sees the festival in it’s 8th year! Running from May 4th-12th.
Originally started back in 2005 STIFF was put together by local filmmakers in a direct challenge to the establishment.
“If you hadn’t already had major success outside of the region, or if your films didn’t fit into a tidy little formulaic box, you had no chance of the Seattle film establishment taking notice of your work. Rather than building and inspiring the film community in its own back yard, SIFF was notorious for bringing big named directors in for their film challenges so a small number of local filmmakers could work for free on their projects to “make contacts”. STIFF was a rejection of the idea that you had to kiss rings to make films.”
However, the festival can’t go ahead without the support of local filmmakers and film lovers.
If you believe in the cause and want to play a part in making this year’s festival happen, check out the incentives on offer.
